Infant/Toddler Classes
We teach children as young as 6 months using a progressive approach –
“Learning through play”,
where we utilize lots of colorful toys
and games to create a child-friendly atmosphere in the pool.
We will require a parent or guardian to join their child in the pool, and serve as “co-teachers”. Young children must be toilet-trained or wear a swim diaper.
Parent/Tot Level 1
This class is for children 6 months through 3 years old…
who are not fully secure in the water. We will teach parents how to handle children in the water, help them become comfortable in the water through songs and play, learn safety skills, kicking, blowing bubbles, begin submersions and dips, floating and seated jumps.
Parent/Tot Level 2
This class is for children age 6 months through 3 years old…
who feel very comfortable in the water or who have already taken the Level 1 class. The focus is on increasing the child’s confidence and independence in the water through play. They will also learn more safety skills, blowing bubbles, propelling with arms and legs, advanced dips and underwater swimming, treasure hunts, floating on the back and jumping with a return swim to the wall.

Children’s Instruction
Our primary goal is to develop confident, water-safe kids,
who swim all strokes efficiently and beautifully.
We offer private (1-1), semi-private (2-1) or small group instruction for a maximum of 3 children, ages 4 and up. (Young children must be toilet-trained or wear a swim diaper.) Learning to swim, as with any new experience, encourages children to stretch their boundaries. While some may learn quickly and effortlessly, those who need more encouragement and patience will receive it. TI instruction has proven better than any other at easing the learning experience for all types of students. Our young students have responded enthusiastically to learning in the Endless Pool.
Class Descriptions
Tadpoles: Ages 4 and 5. Parent not involved with class. This is designed for young children who are nervous in the water. The focus is on gaining confidence and independence, water acclimation and comfort, safety skills, floating on front and back, propelling with arms and legs, breathing skills, beginner submersions, and seated jumps.
Ducklings: Ages 4-5. Designed for independent swimmers. This class focuses on floating, rolling from front to back for a breath, basic backstroke, dive games, underwater swims across the pool, jumping with a return to wall unassisted, and an introduction to the four competition strokes.
Seahorses: Ages 6 and up. Designed for young, nervous swimmers. Focus is on gaining confidence and independence, water acclimation and comfort, safety skills, front and back float, propelling with arms and legs, breathing skills, beginning submersions, and seated jumps.
Goldfish: Ages 6 and up. Focus on front and back floats, rolling from front to back for a breath, basic backstroke, dive games, underwater swims across the pool, jump in and return to wall unassisted, introduction to the four competition strokes.
Dolphins: Ages 8 and up. Focus is on honing efficient technique in all four strokes through intensive drills designed to improve breathing, balance, rotation, and stroke length at varying speeds and distances. Breath control and self propulsion connected to body rhythms are introduced.
Long Axis Skills - rotation around the head-spine line – the foundation for freestyle and backstroke. Balance, streamlining and body alignment for efficiency, with self-propulsion skills connected to body rhythms.
Short Axis Skills - rotation over & under the hip-to-hip axis – the foundation for butterfly and breaststroke. Balance, streamlining and body alignment, with self-propulsion skills connected to dolphin movements. We will also teach a legal breaststroke kick.

Teens/Adults
Become the swimmer you always wished you could be.
If you’re a lifelong non-swimmer, or have never been comfortable in the water, we’ll have you relaxed and confident in a matter of hours and swimming with ease before you know it. For each level of instruction described, we include an estimate for how many classes it may take to master a particular set of skills. However we will teach according to your natural learning pace. Some may complete the skills in fewer than the estimated number of classes – in which case you can choose to move on to more advanced skills. Others may take longer. We recommend you schedule your classes once or twice a week. But we can easily accommodate more concentrated instruction for those who may have a greater distance to travel. These can include classes longer than 60-minutes, or a morning and afternoon class in a single day.
Beginners/Non-Swimmers
Adults who have had poor swimming experiences often feel they are simply not destined to master swimming. This is not so: Anyone can learn to swim. Once you learn to relax and be comfortable in the water and to make “aquatic breathing” as easy and routine as breathing on land, the “mechanics” of swimming will come easily.
Thus our classes for adult non-swimmers focus on two skills:
Aquatic Breathing Made Easy – Breathing is the essential foundation of successful swimming and this specialized instruction is an invaluable aid for the hydrophobic or nervous beginner, and for those who can’t swim and breathe. We’ll help you overcome your nervousness about putting your face in water and teach essential skills of Aquatic Breath Control, using salad bowls filled with warm water in our “dry studio” then build on those skills in the Endless Pool, where you’ll extend your breathing skills and even become comfortable with brief immersion. We estimate one to two 60-minute classes.
Aquatic Ease and Freedom - Our program of "guided discovery" exercises will help you become more relaxed and confident in the water, turning your struggles into smooth and flowing movement. You’ll learn how the human body naturally behaves in water and how to be balanced and streamlined – the key to efficiency in the water. We estimate two to three 60-minute classes.
Stroke Improvement
If you can already swim but not as well as you’d like to, TI can turn you into a smooth, efficient swimmer in any stroke better and faster than any other method.
Easy Freestyle – Learn the same skills taught at our world-renowned Weekend Workshops. Our uniquely effective step-by-step learning sequence will help you become more efficient and relaxed in freestyle, the most popular stroke. This learning process has already transformed thousands of swimmers, from beginners to elite. We estimate six 60-minute classes.
Different Strokes – Our instruction for Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly makes those strokes easy to learn as well. We’ll start with your current skill/ability level and build upon it through small, easily-mastered steps to swim any stroke efficiently and well.
TI Speed School
These classes for seasoned swimmers, workshop grads, triathletes, Masters and competitive swimmers, will teach you the techniques of elite swimmers and the smartest, most efficient way to swim faster.
Swim Check – Learn what you’re doing well and how to improve your swimming with detailed digital video analysis. We’ll use multiple camera angles, both surface and underwater, along with frame-by-frame analysis, and comparison with video examples of expert TI technique to give you a complete understanding of your stroke mechanics and a plan for correction and improvement.
All-Stroke Medley - The TI approach to comfort and flow with backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. This will help develop a solid foundation of efficiency and economy in all four strokes. We estimate three to four 60-minute classes for each stroke.
High-Performance Swimming – This is an advanced class series, for graduates of our FME or All-Stroke Classes or TI Weekend Workshops. We begin by assessing and refining your drill execution, then move on to refining your whole-stroke swimming and complete the series by teaching you how to swim efficiently at higher speeds. We estimate three to four 60-minute classes for each stroke.
Design Your Own Class
Don’t see exactly what you’re looking for here? Our instructors will customize their instruction to focus on any set of skills you wish to develop. Learn at your own pace, focusing on exactly what you are most interested in, with classes scheduled at your own convenience. This class is only for graduates of one of our other classes.
